How to Remove Music From a Video: A Step-by-Step Guide

Learn how to remove music from a video, keep dialogue, compare voice and background tracks, adjust the mix and save the audio or finished video.

Follow the upload, preview and download steps. These diagrams explain how to use the controls.

How to remove music from a video: upload the original clip, separate its soundtrack, select Voice only, turn Background only off, and preview a few important moments. Download the voice audio or a video with the selected sound. If you have separate music and dialogue tracks in an editing project, turn off its music track instead.

Before you start

Keep a copy of the original video. Choose a recording that you have permission to upload and edit, and avoid repeatedly compressing it before processing. Read the privacy policy if it contains private conversations.

Decide what “remove music” means for your clip. For an interview or a tutorial, you likely want the speaker. For a song, you may want the opposite: an instrumental without the singer. Use the vocal remover for that second goal. If you want a completely silent clip, mute the whole soundtrack in a video editor.

This guide uses the music remover to keep voice. The media is processed by a third-party model, which estimates voice and background tracks. The result may contain residual sound or changed voice detail; check it before sharing.

How to remove music from a video

1. Choose the source video

Open the tool and select a supported video from your device. If you use a public media link, it needs to point directly to a downloadable media file. A sharing page that opens a player or requires a login is not the same thing.

Listen to the source preview. Find a short sentence over music, a quiet pause and a point where the music changes. You will compare these same moments after processing.

2. Sign in and check the task settings

Choose the separated audio format you need. Available exports are AAC, MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC. Video processing costs one credit per second; confirm the amount shown before submitting.

Start processing and keep the page open until the upload finishes and the task is queued. The processing stage then continues in the background. A browser preview error does not necessarily mean the file cannot be processed, but confirm the source is the intended recording before starting.

3. Open the result card

When processing finishes, the result appears as a card. You can also find it later in My Files. For a video task, the card combines the video preview with two audio controls: voice and background.

4. Keep voice selected and turn background off

The music-removal preview starts with voice selected. A selected checkbox means that track is part of the preview; click it again to remove it from the mix. You can select both tracks if you want to reduce music rather than remove it entirely.

The video and selected sound share the playback position. Turning a track off changes the preview, not the source file.

Review and adjust the mix

Use the right-hand volume control beside each track to set its level. Start by listening to voice alone. Seek to the checkpoints from the source and make sure that words stay understandable and the sound follows the picture.

Then listen to background alone briefly. This can reveal speech fragments that were assigned to the wrong track. If voice alone sounds too thin, select both tracks and lower the background volume. Judge the new balance by listening to the actual words, rather than by the slider positions.

When both tracks are selected, their sounds are added together. If the mix sounds too loud or distorted, lower the levels. The preview is for choosing a useful balance; it is not a substitute for reviewing the final file.

Download and check the finished file

Use the download button on the card to choose the individual voice audio, individual background audio or a video using the selected track mix. Do not download background alone when your goal is to keep the speaker.

Open the downloaded file in the app where you intend to use it. Check the beginning, middle and end for audio, timing and the expected picture. If you download audio for another editor, align it with the source clip and mute the original mixed soundtrack to avoid doubled speech.

Uploaded files and processed downloads are available for 30 days. Download the files needed for your project before that period ends, and keep a local copy with the original. The original source is useful if a later edit needs sound that the separation did not preserve.

Troubleshooting

I cannot hear anything in the result

Check that at least one track is selected, its volume is above zero and the player is not muted. If both tracks are deselected, the preview is intentionally silent. Try the individual audio download to distinguish a playback issue from an empty or unsuitable result.

Some music is still audible

Check that background is off. Residual music in the voice track can occur where sounds overlap. Compare the source and result; do not assume another format or a louder voice setting will remove that residue.

The voice sounds damaged

Dense music, echo, clipping or overlapping singers can make the separation harder. Listen to the same point in the original and background tracks. Consider a low background mix or keep the original for that section in your editor.

I closed the page during processing

If upload had finished and the task was queued, return to My Files to check it. If you left while the upload was still in progress, check whether a task was created before trying again.

For output choices, see remove music from video. For recordings without a picture, use the audio splitter and read the audio guide.
