To remove music from video while keeping the voice, separate its soundtrack into voice and background tracks. Preview with Voice only selected and Background only turned off, then download the voice track or a video using that sound. Muting the original video alone would remove speech too.
Remove music or remove all sound?
Start with the result you want. A silent video, a voice-only interview and a video with quieter music require different edits.
| Your goal | What to do | What to listen for | | ------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------- | | Keep the speaker and reduce music | Separate the soundtrack; keep voice selected | Clear words and natural pauses | | Keep music and remove a singer | Use the vocal remover; keep background selected | Residual vocals and missing instruments | | Make a silent clip | Mute the entire soundtrack in your editor | No sound at all | | Lower music without fully removing it | Select both separated tracks; lower background volume | Speech remains easy to understand |
If you still have the editing project and its original separate tracks, turning down the music track is usually the most direct edit. Separation is useful when you only have the finished video with all sounds already mixed together.
The labels describe two estimated tracks. “Voice” can contain speech or singing; “background” can include instruments, ambience and sound effects. A third-party model processes the media. It does not recover every original recording track or promise perfect isolation.
How to remove music from video
- Open the music remover. Choose a video from your device. Supported video formats include MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, FLV, WMV, TS. A direct media link must point to the file itself, rather than a video watch page.
- Listen to the source. Pick one sentence under loud music, one quiet section and one transition. These become useful checkpoints for the result.
- Sign in and process. Video processing uses one credit per second. Check the displayed cost before starting. Keep the page open until the upload completes and the task is queued.
- Review the two tracks. Voice is selected by default. Select or deselect either track and adjust its volume. The selected sound follows the video position during preview.
- Download the result you need. Keep a separate audio file for another editing project, or export a video using your chosen track mix.
Once queued, processing continues in the background. Return to My Files to find the task. Uploaded files and processed downloads are available for 30 days; save a local copy for longer use.
Choose your download
An audio download and a video download serve different purposes. Choose voice audio if you plan to make subtitles, edit a podcast or build a new timeline elsewhere. Choose a combined video if you want the picture and selected audio together in one file.
Separated audio exports are available as AAC, MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC. WAV can be useful for an editing workflow that accepts uncompressed audio; MP3 or AAC may be convenient for listening and sharing. Converting a processed result to another format does not restore details already missing from the source.
When adding voice audio to a separate editor, align it with the original clip start. Mute the original mixed soundtrack to avoid playing the voice twice. Check a visible mouth movement near the beginning and near the end before exporting.
Check the result before sharing
Listen through headphones and the speaker your audience is likely to use. Focus on consonants, breaths, pauses and the places where music becomes louder. Compare any suspicious word with the source instead of assuming that the processed version is correct.
Dense music, overlapping singers and dialogue, reverberation or distorted recordings can make the separation less convincing. A little background residue may be preferable to a damaged word. If neither isolated track sounds right, try a lower background level in the preview or return to the original edit.
Separation does not establish permission to reuse a video or its music. Use media you are allowed to upload, edit and distribute. Keep the original alongside the processed version so you can revisit the decision later.
Common questions
Can I remove background music without losing speech?
That is the goal of selecting the voice track, but quality depends on the recording. Review important words and overlapping sounds before relying on the result. The tool does not guarantee that every spoken detail or sound effect stays untouched.
Will the result contain only background music?
If background alone is selected, you hear the estimated background track. It may also contain ambience, effects or residual voice. For this workflow, start with the vocal remover, which selects background by default.
What if I only have an audio file?
Use the audio splitter and follow the audio-only guide. No video preview or combined video export is needed.
